TMS Specialists Treating Patients With Anxiety
Estimates show one-third of all adults and adolescents struggle with anxiety severe enough to count as an anxiety disorder. Texas Mind Science’s multidisciplinary team helps patients suffering from severe anxiety in many DFW Metroplex communities like Richardson, TX at our multiple office locations. Our team has helped patients overcome their anxiety issues, including disorders not responding to conservative treatment. We use repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy delivered through the innovative CloudTMS™ machine. You can learn more about TMS therapy and how it relieves anxiety symptoms by scheduling an appointment online or contacting one of our offices.
About Anxiety & Its Causes
Anxiety is a natural and inescapable mechanism your body uses to alert your brain to danger and trigger hormonal release to energize your body to escape or face a threat. This classic fight-or-flight response is hardwired into your biochemistry. After a threat is gone, your anxiety should disappear while your hormone levels return to normal. However, for people with anxiety disorders, their worries and fears don’t go away, and their hormone levels stay elevated. If your anxiety level is on high alert all the time, it fuels a perpetual cycle of anxiety, putting your physical health at risk and taking a severe toll on your mental health.
Symptoms Developed Because of Anxiety
Texas Mind Science is well-versed in the many anxiety disorders our patients face. There are over 10 recognized anxiety disorders. Some of the most common disorders people face include social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, and other specific phobias. Many people become hypervigilant and constantly anticipate people and places that trigger their anxiety. They intentionally avoid these circumstances and create habits restricting their daily lives increasingly. Each disorder type has symptoms setting it apart from others. However, anxiety disorders as a group cause many common symptoms, including the following:
- Fear
- Apprehension
- Nausea
- Headaches
- Insomnia
- Irritability or Nervousness
- Rapid Breathing
- Increasing Heart Rate
- Excessive Sweating
- Intense Panic
How We Treat Anxiety at Texas Mind Science
Typical treatment methods for anxiety include psychotherapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy. This approach teaches patients to change their thoughts, behaviors, and emotions to reduce their anxiety. A health care provider may also alleviate a patient’s symptoms by prescribing one of several medications. If you have an anxiety disorder, Texas Mind Science has an effective treatment option to relieve your symptoms without medication. We perform TMS therapy using our CloudTMS™ machine, which boosts neurotransmitters, activates neurons, and reduces anxiety using magnetic pulses.
What to Expect With TMS Therapy to Treat Anxiety
During a treatment session, we gently place the CloudTMS™ device against your head while you relax in a chair. After turning on the machine, magnetic pulses reach your targeted brain area by traveling painlessly through your scalp. You might hear clicking sounds or feel light tapping against your head during treatment. One session is 20 to 40 minutes, and most patients undergo a four- to a six-week regimen of five weekly treatments. During a session, we can program your settings to calibrate the machine to the right position, ensuring it replicates the same treatment during every session precisely.
