What to Do if Usual Treatments Don’t Help Your Depression
When 322 million people around the world, including almost 16 million adults in the United States, suffer from a condition, we should be doing everything we can to help them overcome that problem.
Such is the case with depression, a psychiatric disorder that can’t be cured just by “having a better outlook.” Depression is a serious mental illness that requires serious treatment.
At Texas Mind Science, with offices in Richardson and Flower Mound, Texas, we are here to provide that treatment for you. Here’s a look at how we can help when you’re depressed.
Symptoms of Depression
We all feel sad and lonely at times – it’s part of being human. But when those sad feelings threaten to overwhelm us and we can’t cope with daily life, we’re facing something more than just sadness, and it’s time to get some help.
Symptoms of depression include pessimism and hopelessness, fatigue, insomnia, irritability, loss of interest in pleasurable things, and feelings of sadness and emptiness that won’t go away. If you experience several of these every day for a couple of weeks, you are likely dealing with clinical depression, and it’s time to see a doctor.
How to Treat Depression
If your doctor diagnoses you with depression, they will likely begin your treatment with one of two methods: therapy or anti-depressant medication. For many patients, one or both of these treatments does a great job of lifting their depression and enabling them to return to normal function in their lives.
For about 10 to 30 percent of patients, though, medication and therapy do not lighten the depression. This is called treatment-resistant depression, or refraction depression, and if you suffer from this, we can help.
What is CloudTMS Therapy?
At Texas Mind Science, we offer a new treatment called CloudTMS that uses a magnetic field to stimulate electrical activity in the brain. When the areas of your brain that are linked to depression are stimulated, your neurotransmitter levels increase, which improves your depression.
The CloudTMS treatment is delivered with an electromagnetic coil that produces the magnetic pulses that travel into your brain to stimulate it. Your doctor will determine the exact amount of pulses you need and where to position the coil for maximum results. You can relax in your chair during the treatment, and you won’t feel any pain. Each treatment lasts 20-40 minutes.
The key to effective, long-lasting results is extended treatment time, which means you should start with treatments five times a week for four to six weeks. After this time, your doctor will re-evaluate your situation and see what further treatment may be necessary.
